This will be the fifth time the scoots have been dusted off and pointed at an orphanage, and this year we are proud to announce Dong Nai’s Dieu Phap Pagoda Orphanage as our destination and charity-of-choice. Below, you will find more about the charity run, its history, beneficiaries, and most importantly, the Cheer that it helps spread.
Over the years, over 500 kids have benefited from the scooter runs, and almost 500 enthusiasts have hit the road, and 2010 is shaping up as the biggest year ever.
History :
2010 marks the fifth time that the team at Saigon Scooter Center has pulled together its charity run.
So, as we approach the fifth Christmas scooter ride, it is worth a look back.
As an idea that owes its genesis to a half a dozen Christmas-spirited expats in 2005, who simply thought ‘you know, when we are this far away from Christmas, we may as well bring Christmas this far away’ and leapt at the chance to point some old bikes at some young kids.
All in all, over 500 children have squealed and laughed with delight, (and occasionally terror!) as a Santa’s Scooter Sleigh has come ringing in to spread Christmas cheer to them.
Starting from a humble base of 35 Vung Tau-bound riders in 2005, the run has grown every year. This almost doubled in 2006, as the team pointed their scoots at Cu Chi. 2007 saw over 120 riders gear up and head to Dong Nai, and well over 200 set records in 2008 as scooter mania swept beachside Can Gio. 2009 saw the team take a well-earned rest, and in 2010, we are back, in gear, and revving up for further forays into Dong Nai.
2008 was a watershed year, as the 200 strong fleet for the first time saw Vietnamese nationals outnumber the expats on the road, and certainly the widening involvement of the local scooter community was something that the organizing committee derives considerable pride.
Sunday 28 November 2010 sees us Dong Nai bound once more, with the 158 residents of the orphanage at the hill-top Dieu Phap Pagoda set to benefit from the generosity of Saigon’s Scootin’ Community.
The format has remained virtually unchanged over the years, and 2010 will be no exception. Sesame Restaurant on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street becomes our morning rendezvous, with breakfast served, gifts collected and registrations taken. T-shirts are distributed, bikes are parked, and sunscreen is slapped on as the team peers at the road ahead.
Take off time is not to be missed, as the 200-strong fleet kicks-and-twists into gear, a cloud of 2-stroke raises, and traffic stops to behold vintage bikes in all their glory as they begin the journey.
A group luncheon follows, before the fleet descends upon the orphanage, where Santa appears, bikes are judged, and an array of activities including obstacle course racing ensues.
Heading back to town later, an after party is held including a band, entertainment, a buffet dinner, a wide array of raffles and so on are also held with all proceeds going to support the charity.
About this years Orphanage :
Established in 1983, the orphanage inside the Dieu Phap Pagoda plays home to 158 underprivileged people, including 100 orphaned or disabled children, and 58 homeless or elderly persons who are unable to support themselves.
With children as young as just a few weeks old sometimes finding the orphanage as their home, the head of the Orphanage, Sister Nhi has been tending to all comers since it inception and speaks with great passion about the orphanages alumni.
While the orphanage itself does not have a school, the donor-and-pagoda-funded institution sponsors education for all children in the establishment. And indeed, this education is a source of particular pride for Sister Nhi, who talks of former residents currently in MBA programs, and in an assortment of professional fields.
The orphanage occupies a large area on a Dong Nai hillside, and, as with any where that houses this many children, in constant need of maintenance and repairs, but more than that, at the Christmas season, the kids are in need of a little cheer. Sister Nhi waxes lyrical about the fun that the kids have on Saturday evening game nights, but Christmas is a time to go above and beyond, and this is why, in 2010, the Annual Scooter Charity Run will make Dieu Phap its destination. |

Lịch sử:
Năm 2010 là lần thứ năm mà đội tại Trung tâm Scooter Sài gòn đã thực hiện cuộc chạy từ thiện.
Vì vậy, khi chúng tôi tiến đến cuộc chạy xe scooter Giáng sinh lần thứ năm.
Như một ý nghĩ rằng nguồn gốc từ Giáng sinh vào năm 2005, khi chúng ta còn cách xa Giáng sinh này, chúng ta có thể nắm lấy cơ hội này để hướng đến một số trẻ nhỏ với một số chiếc xe đạp cũ.
Toàn bộ, hơn 500 trẻ em đã kêu lên và đã bật cười vui thích , khi một xe trượt tuyết Scooter của ông già Nô-en đã đến để rung chuông cổ vũ Giáng sinh với các em.

Năm 2008 là một năm bước ngoặc, khi đoàn xe mạnh 200, lần đầu tiên người Việt đông hơn người nước ngoài trên đường, và chắc chắn việc mở rộng bao gồm cộng đồng scooter địa phương là những gì mà ban tổ chức tự hào.
Chủ Nhật ngày 28/11/2010 một lần nữa tại Đồng Nai với 158 cư dân của trại mồ côi tại Chùa Diệu Pháp thiết lập để hưởng lợi từ sự hào phóng của Cộng đồng Scootin Sàigòn.
Hình thức này vẫn không thay đổi qua nhiều năm, và năm 2010 sẽ không là ngoại lệ. Nhà hàng Sesame trên đường Xô Viết Nghệ Tỉnh trở thành điểm hẹn của chúng ta, với buổi ăn sáng được phục vụ, được nhận quà và thực hiện việc đăng ký. Áo thun được phân phối, xe đạp được đậu ở bãi xe,.
Không bỏ lỡ thời gian khi đoàn xe mạnh 200 lên xe và họ bắt đầu cuộc hành trình vinh quang của họ .
Một tiệc trưa sau đó, trước khi đoàn xe đến trại mồ côi, nơi ông già Nôen xuất hiện, xe đạp được đánh giá và một chuỗi hoạt động bao gồm đua chướng ngại vật
Được thành lập vào năm 1983, trại trẻ mồ côi bên trong Chùa Diệu Pháp là ngôi nhà của 158 người nghèo, trong đó có 100 trẻ mồ côi hoặc trẻ tàn tật, và 58 người vô gia cư hoặc người cao tuổi là những người không thể tự mình chu cấp.
Với những đứa trẻ chỉ có vài tuần tuổi thì xem trại mồ côi như là nhà của họ, trưởng trại mồ côi, nữ tu sĩ Nhi đã và đang chăm sóc những người đến đây từ khi bắt đầu và cảm động khi nói về trại trẻ mồ côi.
Trong khi trại trẻ mồ côi không có một trường học, các nhà tài trợ và nhà chùa đã tổ chức việc giáo dục cho tất cả trẻ tại cơ sở. Việc giáo dục này là một niềm tự hào đặc biệt đối với nữ tu sĩ Nhi khi kể về những cư dân trước đây hiện tại học trong những chương trình MBA và trong những lĩnh vực chuyên môn nghề nghiệp.
Trại mồ côi được tạo dựng trên một khu vực rộng trên sườn đồi Đồng Nai, và như với những ngôi nhà cần thường xuyên bảo dưỡng và sửa chữa, nhưng hơn thế nữa, vào mùa Giáng sinh, những đứa trẻ này cần một chút sự cổ vũ, nữ tu sĩ nói về niềm vui mà những đứa trẻ có vào những đêm vui chơi buổi tối thứ Bảy và đây là lý do năm 2010 cuộc chạy từ thiện scooter hàng năm sẽ được tổ chức tại chùa Diệu Pháp. |
